Foodie Reviews Update
Ya... it's not a Saturday but sure feels like one to me.

Cafe Rosso
Went with KQ for breakfast on a nice Saturday morning. Crowd there was predominantly caucasian. I ordered the Tuscan set and KQ ordered the bacon, scrambled eggs and toast set. The set comes with juice; I had cranberry while KQ had lime (note the matching colors hehe):

Coffee/tea; KQ had iced tea while I had iced coffee (initially I thot it's their famous iced coffee with ice cubes made from coffee but later I realized that costs extra :P). You can see how many glasses our table has by now:

And finally this is KQ's set with the bacon hidden (no, she couldnt finish the whole thing):

And this is mine, with toast, scrambled eggs and 2 types of sausages and some cubed tomatoes:

All-in-all service was good and the food was yummy, esp the scrambled eggs. Really creamy and lived up to the all the hype I heard about it. The Japs really know their stuff... and their prices as well. :P Saw in the menu that they have lotsa nice lunch dishes as well. Will be makin a return trip soon!

Hog's Breath Cafe
After seeing the queue at NY NY, me and CY popped down to this place at Chijmes. I've heard good things about their steaks and I have 15% off there, so y not? They also have 20% off if you order before 7pm but we arrived after that. Anyway I had a mug of Heineken to start things off since it was happy hour. We ordered potato skins and a mega cut (400g) of their Blackened Prime Ribs. The potato skins came with some potatoes and bacon, sour cream, etc., so it's not just skins. The prime ribs here are different from Lawry's. At Lawry's the meat is basically roast beef. Here, the roast beef is broiled right before serving. So it kinda becomes similar to a steak. The normal cut is 300g but we ordered the mega cut because we were sharing. We had it medium but the meat seems to be more like medium-rare and rather bloody. But it was tender, that's for sure. They have several ways of serving the meat. The blackened style we chose was slightly spicy. They have other stuff like avocado sauce, BBQ sauce etc. as well. To accompany the meat, we chose hog tail fries (basically curly fries) and salad. Surprisingly we could finish everything and not feel extremely bloated. In fact, I might be able to finish the whole 400g myself if I hadn't had the potatoes! All-in-all a decent place to get some beef, esp if you come before 7pm.

Nan Xiang
This is a new restaurant in Bugis Junction (around Billy Bombers that area) which has surprisingly opened without any fanfare considering that it's supposed to be a famous Xiao Long Bao (XLB) place in Shanghai and has branches in Tokyo, HK, etc. Anyway it was KQ who introed this to me after having been there with her family.

After the not so delicious meal at Din Tai Fung (DTF) previously, I of course was eager to sample the XLBs here. So one fine evening, before catching the Banquet, which ironically had nothing to do with food, me and CY patronised this place.

We had chilled boiled chicken which was so-so. A basket of normal XLB which was decent enough. A crab meat mixed with pork XLB which I felt was pretty good but CY said it tasted weird. Yang Zhou fried rice which came in a larger portion than DTF but the prawns were chopped into smaller pieces. And finally a dish not commonly seen here. A tennis ball sized XLB which has a straw poking out of it and inside is soup, crab roe and some crab meat. Frankly, drinking hot soup using a straw is not such a good idea. Your tongue is sure to get scalded unless you wait very long and by then the soup not v nice anymore. And that bao is quite ex at $6.80 a pop, so I dont think its worth it. Mabbe just once for the novelty is enuff. Oh but I like the fact that they serve tea by using a small pot and proper tea cups.

Overall the food is decent. Probably better than DTF but would be a close fight with Crystal Jade. However the service there is really good. While I was filling up a lucky draw form with one hand (my other hand was holding to my wallet), the cashier actually helped me press down the form which was flapping. Then a waiter brought a chair over for me to put my laptop bag. And all this happened at the cashier counter!

Ok, that's it for now. More photos next time when I've a camera phone!
