School is starting soon. In around a month's time. Boy am I excited. No mood to blog much lately coz after work feel too tired to blog. Some updates about me. Yes, it's true. My trip to ***** in August is confirmed. Will be missing around a week of school. Hope it is all worth it.
And I finalized my Hons proj oso. Really feel it's interesting now and hopefully the enthusiasm will be enduring. The title is unconjured yet but its something along the lines of atom interferometry and quantum gravity.
One more thing I realized is that out of the many project groups I've worked with over my years in uni, I find that the latest group, aka the nano-group is the one which I feel the closest too. Mabbe becoz one of them is a joker and another one I knew since JC.
List to Self (June)
List of Physics Textbook I Wanna Buy
The Quantum Theory of Fields, 3 volume set - Steven Weinberg (A complete intuitive introduction to quantum fields, its applications and supersymmetry.)
String Theory, 2 volume set - J Polchinski (Arguably the definitive text for strings.)
Course of Theoretical Physics, 10 volume set - Landau & Lifshitz (The encylopedia of physics.)
List of CDs I Wanna Buy
Safe In A Crazy World - Corrinne May
List of Jap DVDs I Wanna Buy
Cafe Lumiere - Hou Hsiao Hsien
List of Movies Showing Now/Soon that I Wanna Watch
Batman BeginsBatman Begins this week and early reviews suggest a major hit. Having watched the first Batman starring Michael Keaton in my primary school days, this latest incarnation of Batman does bring a certain nod of cinematic nostalgia upon me.
Modules Alert
Likely to take the following modules plus the honours project next semester. Comments?
Quantum Mechanics 3 (Compulsory module and one of my fave topic in physics.)
Electrodynamics (Another of my fave topic in physics. The prof is solidly good oso.)
Statistical Mechanics (Yet another of my fave topic in physics.)
Quantum Optics (Got to know this field in more detail lately and it seems very interesting.)
Basic Financial Math (This is to prepare for the higher level Financial Math 1.)
Same like last sem, the upcoming sem seems like a physics + finance combo. All in all it seems like a good sem ahead!
Then for the final sem, perhaps I would take:
Particle Physics (This is what made me take physics last time. I wanna learn about the particles that make up our universe. How ironic that it has taken 3.5 years to prepare me for this.)
Econometrics 1 (The last module for me to complete my minor in Econs. Previously I would have chosen Intl Econs but I guess this is more useful for financial research.)
Financial Math 1 (Hopefully analytical math would be useful.)
Either a Finance module from BizAd or a Stats module from Sci. (Dunno which one more useful for a career or research in Finance leh... Anyone has any idea?)
Seems like quite a heavy workload considerin I have to juggle the honours project too. WH oni took 1 module in his final sem...
DLP
Watched Star Wars Ep 3 and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy at Suntec the other day. On their digital system. One word. WHOAH!
This was my 2nd experience with digital projection. The first was at Cine watching The Incredibles. That didn't blow me away becoz it was animation but this time I was speechless. The image was so crisp and almost threatened to jump out of the screen! I wouldn't mind paying more if they are spending the money on such technology but in reality not all movies come in digital format. So you are basically paying the price hike for non-digital movie oso. So that sux! Anyway I am a convert now.
A lot of time I think about my future. Of coz many ppl think about it too, but I really feel that I worry too much about it. It's like I am scared I make the wrong decision and have to live my life that way until I die. I am very worried about the irreversibility of life. Wat's done cannot be undone. Guess I am a perfectionist. I always want to make the "correct" decision. Hopefully as I grow older, I can learn to let go of things and just accept fate.
Exam Results Finally Out (3 days ago)
It was with a sense of trepidation that I finally braved myself to check my exam results. After the previous sem's disastrous shocker... I am prepared for the worst. Little did I expect my grades to be:
Experimental Physics 2 = (Wah this is indeed a pleasant surprise!) Financial Economics 1 = (Would have done better if I wasnt disadvantaged for the midterm.) Nanoscale Sci & Tech = (First time I got this grade for USP. What a fitting ending to my 8 USP first-tiers.) Special Probs in Undergrad Phy 2 = (I deserved this considering the effort I put in) UROPS = (Not very good but I can't complain since the amount of work I put in was miniscule.)
